Mountain View * Calendar

In moving your body through the 5Rhythms® you have the potential to connect to your innermost self. If you’re willing to surrender to the movement and the moment, this practice will have a profound effect on how you move your body, feel in your own skin and relate to yourself and others. Movement as a spiritual practice is a path to presence - losing the dancer and becoming the dance.

If you’re just beginning to explore ecstatic dance, these classes will give you the basic tools. If you're an experienced 5Rhythms® dancer, they will allow you the opportunity to dive deeper into your personal practice. Classes are open to every moving body regardless of age, size, gender or physical ability.

5Rhythms® - Mountain View
Facilitated by Claire Alexander

The 5Rhythms® movement practice holds many possibilities as a fun form of exercise, a great way to connect with others, and a deeply transforming spiritual practice. Over the course of an evening class, we move through many different places. As we use our bodies to explore the map of the five rhythms (Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness), we develop an intimate relationship with the energy that animates our daily lives.

This class is for anybody who wants to engage with the teachings of this practice. Using gentle guidance, focused exercises and a sense of humor, along with a deep respect for our humanness, we apply the innate qualities of each rhythm to a different theme each week. We invite you to join us.

I went to church,
but God wasn’t there;
I said everybody’s prayers
Till something deep inside me cried,
“I need the beat to be satisfied.”
I got off my knees and on my feet
Took my rock & roll prayers
      back on the street.
I gotta dance,
Gotta dance.
